Sadly Roger Lloyd-Pack died of Pancreatic cancer today, at the age of 69. In his memory I thought I’d share a short story of when he came into our store, whilst I was working at Christo Print and Design. This story will make me look quite stupid – but sometimes we have to laugh at ourselves…
Back in 2010, Lloyd-Pack had walked into Christo and asked us to produce an invitation for his daughter’s 40th birthday. He wanted to say that the attire was “all white on the night (and black)” and I was very confused by this. Why have “and black” in brackets? I had this discussion with him and his response was: “you don’t watch much TV, do you?”. Admittedly, he was right, so I thought, perhaps he knows best.
When he left, I asked my boss who he was, because I’d recognised him and couldn’t put my finger on where I’d seen him before. My boss pointed out it was Trigger from Only Fools and Horses, and in the cockney accent said “It’s all white on the night” and my face dropped! I couldn’t believe how stupid I was.
When he came back to collect his invites, I explained my error and he laughed and kindly took a picture with us. Since then I’ve been watching more TV programmes!
